2004 Starting with better hitting.

The start of the 2004 season for the A's has similar to last year with a fast start on the road only to finish with some tough losses. The A's are hitting in the middle of the order which is something they have been lacking in the past. With the emergence of young stars such as Lyle Overbay, Orlando Hudson, and Arasmis Ramirez, the A's bats are helping the strong pitching. Overbay and Ramirez are both hitting in the mid 300's while Orlando Hudson is suprisingly leading the team with 6 homeruns. A's hitting coach Dwayne Murphy stated, "If we can get more production from Rollins and the outfielders, then we should win more of the close games." Rollins is off to a slow start, but his fielding is a reason he is in the lineup everyday. The bench has proven to be a strong point, led by Sweeney and Marcus Giles.
